Summer Camp

What happens in early childhood can impact for a lifetime. In young children, stress resulting from major trauma such as extreme poverty and homelessness, can weaken the developing brain and can lead to lifelong emotional, cognitively and behavioral problems. By providing effective Child Enrichment Programs and Summer Camps, the consequences of early trauma can be prevented and we can help ensure that all children are prepared for school and life success.

Beats the Streets Summer Camp can improve the outcomes for young homeless children and ensure success later in life. Our Summer Camp for Homeless Children, builds supportive, dependable relationships.  We are staffed with qualified, loving Camp Counselors and tutors that emphasize language arts and cognitive development.

"Do you hear what these children are saying?" they asked him. "Yes," replied Jesus, "have you never read, 'From the lips of children and infants you have ordained praise." Matthew 21:16

Nearly 40 percent of our campers have endured physical abuse or neglect and have emotional or behavioral issues compounded by the instability of homelessness. Our highly trained, Camp Counselor and strong academic component help campers address any emotional and educational deficits so they develop the tools needed to catch up with their peers at school. Campers activities encourage teamwork, responsibility, self-expression and social interaction. A typical day includes fun activities, as well as:

  • Bible Study, Praise & Worship
  • Language Arts
  • Science & Computers
  • Health & Wellness
  • Art, Culture & Heritage

A typical day at camp includes swimming, tennis lessons, games, arts and crafts, music and a reading/writing activity. A pizza party and weekly awards ceremony are held every Friday and field trips as funding permits.

BTS Summer Camp's goal is to provide comprehensiveand coordinated youth development for all homeless youth.  We take a faith-based approach to fuel young people's development so they can lead satisfying, healthy, and productive lives.

As a nonprofit agency, we depend upon private donations and volunteer involvement to help us achieve our mission and keep our overhead costs low. We want every possible dollar to support programming. A donation to BTS Summer Camp or Child Enrichment Programs will impact the whole community.

Early childhood education allows parents to be more productive and children become ready for school and their future. High-quality early childhood education has the greatest positive effect on children from lower socioeconomic status, and children who are at risk because of homelessness.  Recent brain research has verified the importance of cognitive and social development in the early years. Early intervention effects include higher rates of information retention, higher levels of academic achievement, fewer special education services, and a stronger commitment to graduating from high school.

With your Donation, BTS Child Enrichment Programs can meet the needs of hundreds of young children that need additional support and enable us to provide high quality therapeutic programming to children that otherwise would not have access.
