“I’ve been in homeless shelters since the age of 12 and it became the way we lived. Beats the Streets program changed all that for me. I am now in my 3rd year of college taking my pre-med classes. I want to be a Surgeon and Beats the Streets has been both financially and emotionally supportive. They praise me on all my small and large successes.” Kyle F.
Whoever has a bountiful eye will be blessed, for he shares his bread with the poor. Proverbs 22:9
“Since I can remember, I have been in homeless shelters. Now, at age 30 and with Bachelor's Degree, I find myself in a homeless shelter still. I met, Jeanette Hames while working on the "Roof Top Garden" of the shelter. She listened to my story and asked me if I would be interested in the program Beats the Streets offers to the homeless men and women. I was taken home with Jeanette on a few occassions to just get away from shelter mentality. She would also come down on Sundays and take a group of us to Grace Midtown Church. I began to regain my trust in the Lord and started attending church on a regular basis. I gained employment on my own and I can only thank the people at Beats the Streets for believing in me. Paul Martino worked with me and showed me love and respect. Paul reworked my resume, put a profile of me on LinkedIn, coached me and we practiced interviews.” I was able to land a job after working with Paul within just a couple of weeks. More importantly, my faith is stronger than ever. Thank you, Beats the Streets" Daniel G. PS I have now earned my Master's Degree and in management at Home Depot!
“I was in a homeless shelter for 7 years and worked there for the last 6 years. Suddenly the rug was taken out from of under my feet and I found myself on the streets again. No explanation. God is good though and I knew who to call. I knew the counselors from Beats the Streets as they did so many good works at the shelter. So, in my desperation I called out to them. The same day they came to get me and found me a place to live too. I was in shock, but they took care of me. Comforted me and told me God had his reasons. They brought me furniture, cookware, food, clothing and even found me a job when it was time. I wanted for nothing during these trying times. Through the inspiration and professional mentors at Beats the Streets, I have rededicated my life to Christ. I also found out the reason was to set me free!” They put me through Security Guard training and when I received my certification Beats the Streets found me an apartment complex to work as their Security Guard and gave me a free apartment. John 13:34-35 “A new command I give you: Love one another. As I have loved you, so you must love one another. By this everyone will know that you are my disciples, if you love one another.”
“Thanks to the people of Beats the Streets, I was helped and loved in a way that made me feel like I had a family I could really count on. They took me to church, taught me to be patient, helped me find a job and gave me professional clothes and shoes for work. I never missed a meal and they included me on all their activities. Beats the Streets helped me find a loving, personal relationship with Jesus Christ” Heather C.
"I have been in and out of homeless shelters since the age of 12 when my Father left and was never to be seen again. My real Mom had poor judgement when it came to the men she brought into our lives and so when she found housing, I decided to stay. Jeanette would take me to their home on weekends and I felt not just the love there. I felt like family. I even started calling her "Mom". She liked that a lot. I often helped with unloading water and clothing for shelters and the homeless on the streets. Stayed with Paul Martino too. Going back to the shelter from a weekend with "Mom"/Jeanette was difficult. "She even cried and said this is too hard. You don't belong here." That's when we thought about me going to college. Yep! Pre-Med at Fort Valley State University and I work too! "Mom" helped that 1st year or so and then I began to learn to be independent. I am self-sufficient thanks to Beats the Streets.
"With the help of Beats the Streets, I began a new way of thinking. One that was more positive, knowing that they had my back and that God loved me. My relationship with God is no longer one of fear, but a personal relationship building on love and trust. With the help of Beats the Streets I have a job in construction and things are looking up. I'm still a work in progress, but it's good to feel like a human being again. I also get to lead the worship in group and minister on the streets during my free time. I know what it's like to be homeless and I can help now." Michelle I.
Hebrews 13:16 "Do not neglect to do good and to share what you have, for such sacrifices are pleasing to God."
“By the end of the time you come on the streets you've lost all confidence in yourself. Just to know that someone cares is the main thing I guess. I met Jeanette and Paul and the volunteers, who were willing to give up their time to come and see me and called to check on me all the time. They took the time to listen to my story and I felt like they really cared. That’s when I decided I needed to enter the Beats the Streets program, it's great.” Harper D.
“When I lost my job it was like a slippery slide to the streets. I lost my car, my belongings and found myself living on the streets after I was evicted from my apartment. I didn't want to go to a shelter as I had previously had a bad experience. Bad things can happen, but the streets were no good either."
"I thank God that a friend put me in touch with Beats the Streets. I enrolled into their program on Monday. The transition weeks were so helpful with praise and worship time that helped me renew my faith and it seemed like the fear just began to melt away. BTS Staffing reworked my resume, put up a profile on LinkedIn and within 2 weeks from entering the program, I was interviewing for jobs. I found employment at an entry-level position. They helped me find low-income housing (an apartment in Decatur)and I am saving up for a car.” Latanya T.
